Zoonotic Disease Tracking

Sharing disease information between Cambodia Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and the National Veterinary Research Institute (NaVRI).

Date: September 2011 — Present
Location: Cambodia
Technology: GeoChat

GeoChat is being used to improve communications and build stronger relationships between the Cambodia Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and the National Veterinary Research Institute (NaVRI) response teams. Since zoonotic diseases are animal diseases that can be transmitted to humans, allowing cross-disciplinary teams to share information is an important part of managing the health threats posed by them.

With GeoChat’s SMS-based system, both the Cambodian CDC and NaVRI were able to improve their real-time information sharing so that both teams were kept aware of the situation in the field so that they can quickly identify and respond to potential outbreaks.
